Lake Michigan mermaids are having a rough time right now.
I always gotta peek at the audience before a show. Tried something a little different with this piece. Painted first, then added lines. Usually I work in the other direction. I think this experiment turned out well!
I worked on I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space!!! for 7 years, and now it’s done. And with the end of such a thing, there comes the introspection, the retrospection, and all other kinds of ‘spections. In this case, taking a look back to see just how far the art advanced in that time. I was so proud of the first page when I made it, and while I’m not ashamed of it now, I’ve certainly come a long long long way! So even if your art is shaky now, or at least not looking how you pictured it in your head, remember that with practice, you get better every day. Realize artistic talent is a learned skill that gets better with time. And then USE EVERY FIBER OF WILLPOWER TO NOT GO BACK AND REDRAW THE WHOLE FIRST HALF OF THE STORY!!!
Fiona and Lia from YU+ME. I had been planning on doing a whole book of tutorials for all the styles I used in the comic. I did this one and got distracted. So, since I’m probably not going to end up making the book, I might as well share this with you now. Nothing in the comic was ever this complicated anyway.
Whenever I draw people with tattoos, I tend to half ass it, unable to come up with ideas for what their tattoos should be. So I practiced drawing lots and lots of them.
A new issue of Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space starts today! Here’s the painted cover without the words on it. We’ve got space battles, we’ve got ancient mythical gods, we’ve got mayhem. I’m super proud of this chapter and I hope you like it.
Also, you can get a print of this cover if’n you want.
I made a new page of Meaty Yogurt! The punk boys are loosely based on Blake and Fletcher from Nothing Nice to Say, which is a pretty fun comic. Anyway, I’m working on a new chapter now, so in maybe like a month there’ll be a lot more of this comic.
Janet’s face breaks my heart. I know I drew it, but she looks so scared and worried and I wanna tuck her into bed with some tea and let her stay home from pirating for a day because she doesn’t feel good and she can watch Price is Right and Scooby Doo instead.
