When I was a little kid, I knew that “Deutschland” was the German language name for Germany, but I didn’t realize that it was pronounched “Doytsch.” Instead, I thought “Deutsch” sounded the same as “Douche.”

Which led to awkward and terribly confusing moments such as when I’d overheard someone get referred to as a “douchebag,” and I thought to myself “But his last name is Rousakis.”
